April 9th meeting: Guns and Ammo; Book Formatting

REMINDER: We are back at the Hotel Tucson City Center Innsuites! Unfortunately, as we’ve mentioned at previous meetings, their prices have gone up, and ours need to as well. Starting in April, meetings are $30 for non-members, and $25 for members.

We know that law enforcement officials carry weapons, but often the specifics beyond “gun” or “Taser” elude us. Join us in welcoming Sgt. Jason Rockwell from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, who will tell us about firearms and weapons platforms carried by law enforcement (and specifically PCSO), including differences between and the pros and cons of each, as well as their applications. Sgt. Rockwell will also discuss the different types of ammunition used by the department and law enforcement in general, as well as current trends in law enforcement in regards to weapons and ammunition.

We’ll have a delicious lunch, and a fun book drawing.

In our afternoon session, editor and author Michaele Lockhart will present “What Goes on Between the Covers” (and why it matters to the professionalism and life of your book).  There is both an art and science to the correct formatting of any book. A well-formatted book costs the same as one that is poorly formatted. People who use fee-for-publishing services rarely know what to look for or ask for, most local sources and cottage industries who offer formatting don’t know right from wrong, and CreateSpace’s guidelines are totally inaccurate. Find out what you need to know to have a well-formatted book!

RSVP by 9:30 am, Wednesday, April 6th to save your place. $30 non-members includes lunch. $25 RSVP’d members. Pay at the door. RSVP by clicking the button on http://www.meetup.com/Arizona-Mystery-Writers-of-Tucson/ or email amwmembershipchair@gmail.com. See you there!
