June 10th meeting: Mental Health Support Team; How to Tell a Good Story

Last month we heard how they deal with mental health issues in the jail, but the care for those with such issues starts with officers’ street contact. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department’s Mental Health Investigative Support Team (MHST) was created to insure individuals with mental health challenges are receiving necessary treatment and support through a collaborative effort with behavioral health professionals, law enforcement, medical practitioners and the public.  Join us in welcoming Sgt. Jill Isely and Det. Maria Stengel from the PCSD MHST unit, who will be discussing the unique makeup and mission of the unit, the challenges involved with identifying those individuals who may present a danger to others, and collaborating with behavioral health partners to ensure they receive the appropriate care.

We’ll have a delicious lunch, and a fun book drawing.

In our afternoon session, Penelope Starr, founder of Odyssey Storytelling, presents “How to Tell a Good Story.” In this interactive workshop, you will learn how oral storytelling can support your writing, become aware of your potential as storytellers, learn important elements of organization and presentation, and gain confidence in telling your story.

RSVP by 9:30 am, Wednesday, June 7th to save your place. $30 non-members includes lunch. $25 RSVP’d AMW (not Meetup) members. Pay at the door. RSVP by clicking the button on http://www.meetup.com/Arizona-Mystery-Writers-of-Tucson/ or email amwmembershipchair@gmail.com. See you there!
